Let’s talk about some chicken

I love Raising Cane’s, I really do, like a lot. I have spent nights with friends after football games, lunches getting to know co-workers better, and countless solo meals in front of the latest Netflix show with their food.
I admire it’s simplicity and the ground it continues to stand on in that it will only have fried chicken fingers on its menu. The world doesn’t need another Chick-fil-A. Plus, my grandfather loved going there because he “hated having to think about what food he was going to get and at Cane’s all you have to decide is how much chicken you want.” If they change their menu I lose the place I recall a laughing conversation with him.
...
I signed up for the Caniac card the first day it was available in our local Cane’s and even as I write this I’m across the street from one. If I peek out over the desk I could see the drive-thru line.
I get a sandwich combo with no lettuce, a sweet tea, and 2 extra sauces. I love the way the chicken crunches mixed with the soft bun. My mouth waters at the thought of those salty, perfectly crisped fries dipped in that lovely sauce. And yes, with my stomach issues, I tend to spend about an hour after eating laying down hoping no one will need me for anything.
But ya know what, I eat it anyways, because I love it. No matter the diet I’m currently putting myself on, the cash I search my purse and car for when the account’s low, or threat of having to take the dog on a run after...I will eat it.
I don’t regret my decision to finish my sandwich, move onto my fries, and finish it off with a sweet tea that makes Southern grandmas proud.
And I think that’s a pretty good way to live life.
...
I think about a decision, make it, and go about my day.
Friends, the only decision you should ever regret is the one you didn’t think through first. Being spontaneous is fun, but if you impulsively book a sky diving excursion and forget the parachute part - you’re going to have a bad trip.
Think about your choices, think about why you’re making a decision, think about what that decision means for you, MAKE IT, and have a nice day - safe in the knowledge you thought carefully about an action before taking it. That rarely gets done anymore.
...
And you’re right, I just turned a conversation about good fried chicken into a life lesson. I am Southern after all.
